Andrew Wyeth - Grandes Pintores - Great Painters

Andrew Newell Wyeth (12 de julio de 1917 – 16 de enero de 2009)fue un pintor realista y regionalista estadounidense. Fue uno de los más conocidos del siglo XX y también se le conocía como el "Pintor del Pueblo" debido a su popularidad en el público americano. Hijo de del ilustrador y artista N. C. Wyeth, y hermano del inventor Nathaniel Wyeth y de la artista Henriette Wyeth, y padre del artista Jamie Wyeth y Nicholas Wyeth.

El tema principal de sus obras fue la tierra y habitantes de su ciudad natal Chadds Ford, en Pensilvania y de su casa de verano en Cushing, Maine. Una de las imágenes más famosas del arte americano del siglo XX es su "Christina's Worls" que actualmente se encuentra en la colección del Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York.

En 1976 ingresó en la Academia de Bellas Artes de Francia. En 1988 recibió la medalla del Congreso de EEUU y en 2007 el presidente de Estados Unidos, George W. Bush, le concedió la medalla nacional de las artes.

En 2007, su cuadro Ericksons fue subastado por 10,3 millones de dólares (unos 7'7 millones de euros), una las mayores cifras jamás pagadas por la obra de un pintor contemporáneo. Además, Wyeth tuvo el honor en 1970 de ser el primer artista en tener una exposición dedicada exclusivamente a su trabajo en la Casa Blanca. En aquella ocasión, el entonces presidente Richard Nixon le describió como un hombre "que ha alcanzado el corazón de América".

In 1976 he joined the Academy of Fine Arts of France. In 1988 he received the medal of the U.S. Congress and in 2007 the U.S. president, George W. Bush awarded him the National Medal of Arts.

In 2007, his painting was auctioned Ericksons by $ 10.3 million (about 7'7 million), a major figure ever paid for the work of a contemporary painter. In addition, Wyeth in 1970 had the honor of being the first artist to have an exhibition devoted exclusively to his work at the White House. On that occasion, the then President Richard Nixon described him as a man "who has reached the heart of America."
